I decided to transfer my blog from wordpress.com to wordpress.org. It just had more features that I wanted to use. After doing some research, I came across a site called WPBeginner. Their deal was that if you used their link to purchase your outside hosting, they would transfer your blog and set you up for free. Another plus with using their link to buy your hosting service is it was discounted. Well, I took the plunge.
After signing up through BlueHost, I was sent directions to unlock and transfer my domain. During this time I had to upload a copy of my receipt to WPBeginner and they would email me shortly to transfer my stuff. Once I received the initial email from David at WPBeginner, it asked for my password for both my wordpress account and bluehost account. I was very wary about handing that out, so after reading tons of articles about transferring between the two sites, it seemed easy enough. It was just a one click install, how hard could that be. WELL… I tried to do it myself and failed miserably. I kept getting error after error. UGH! I quickly emailed David back and sent him my info and prayed it wasn’t a scam. After 24 hours of not hearing back from them, I started to get nervous. I was scouring the web for any information on this company. Their webpage dominated google search until, after about 4 pages in on one search, I found this blog post.
Sweet Laura at goodnotperfect.com wrote a detailed article of her experience and at first, had the same concerns that I did. Shortly after reading her blog, the email from David came back and from there, everything went smoothly. Not only did they transfer everything seamlessly, but David answered about 12 different emails from me with various questions.
Right now, I am still getting use to wordpress.org and have to work out some kinks, but I am so happy that I took a chance on WPBeginner to help me.
